Coffee Husk
The outer coating of the coffee bean that is removed during the preparation of coffee is known as coffee husk. It is a result of the manufacture of coffee and has several uses.

Extracting Coffee Husk
During processing, which includes separating the outer layers (pulp and skin) from the interior layers using either wet or dry processes, coffee husks are taken from coffee cherries. Coffee cherries are soaked in water to soften their outer layers, which are then machine-removed in the wet technique. On the other hand, the dry process requires the cherry to be sun-dried before the outer layers are manually removed. The coffee husks are then segregated using sieve, water or gravity methods from other waste products.

Applications for Coffee husk
Coffee husks may be processed into solid biofuels, such as briquettes or pellets, which can be used in power plants or heating systems in place of fossil fuels. It may also be utilised in gasification to create syngas, which can be used as fuel for industrial operations or to produce power.
